Gutters, Skylights & Exteriors
New gutter installation for San Jose homes
Gutters sized for a drizzle overflow in a real storm. We size the trough and the downspouts to the roof above them, form the runs on site in one piece, and hang them so water goes where you want it.

What we treat
- Concrete and clay tile
- Composition shingle
- Flat, torch-down and TPO
- Spray foam
- Standing seam metal
Quick answer. Gutter installation in San Jose means seamless aluminum gutters formed on site to the exact length of each run, in 5 or 6 inch K-style depending on the roof area feeding them, hung on hidden hangers with a steady fall to downspouts sized and placed to carry the water away from the foundation. A typical house is done in a day.

The job
What makes a gutter system work
Three things decide whether gutters work: size, fall and outlets. A 5 inch gutter on a big roof with a valley dumping into it will overflow no matter how clean it is. Runs need a steady fall toward the outlets, and long runs need more than one outlet.
We measure the roof areas draining to each run, not just the length of the eave, before picking sizes.
Your options
5 inch or 6 inch, aluminum or steel?
Most homes suit aluminum; the roof size decides the width.
| Question | 5 inch aluminum | 6 inch aluminum | Galvanized steel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Smaller roofs, single story | Large roofs, valleys, tile | Heavy impact areas |
| Capacity | Standard | About 40 percent more | Same as size |
| Rust | Does not rust | Does not rust | Can rust at cuts |
| Relative cost | Lowest | Moderate | Higher |

Seamless aluminum gutters

Seamless gutters are formed from a coil of aluminum by a machine on the truck, cut to the length of each run so the only joints are at the corners and outlets. Fewer joints means fewer leaks. We use heavier-gauge aluminum in a range of baked colors matched to the trim, miter the corners and seal them from inside, and fasten the runs with hidden hangers screwed into the fascia. Drip edge is checked or added so water lands in the gutter, not behind it.
Downspout sizing and placement

A downspout can only carry so much water, and a clogged or undersized one backs the whole run up. We match downspout size to the roof area feeding it, using larger 3 by 4 inch downspouts on big runs, and place outlets at valleys and at the ends of long runs. Each downspout is strapped to the wall and discharges onto a splash block, an extension or into a drain line that carries water well away from the foundation. Downspouts near doors and walkways are routed around them where possible.
Replacing old sectional gutters

Older houses often still carry sectional steel or aluminum gutters joined every ten feet, and every joint is a leak waiting for its turn. Replacement removes the old runs and hangers, checks the fascia behind them, and forms new runs on site so the only joints left are at corners and outlets. Downspouts are resized at the same time, since the originals were often too small for the roof. It is the common case where replacing costs less over a few years than resealing every seam again.
Cost
What new gutters cost depend on
Gutters are priced by the linear foot, plus downspouts, corners and any guards.
- Total length Measured around the house in linear feet.
- Gutter size 6 inch costs more than 5 inch.
- Downspouts Number, size and length to the ground.
- Corners and outlets Miters and drops add labor.
- Guards Metal mesh guards priced per foot.
- Old gutter removal Tear-off and disposal of the existing system.
What we see on San Jose roofs
Guards come up on most new-gutter jobs in the hills because San Jose's very-high fire hazard zone roughly doubled when the city adopted CAL FIRE's updated map in 2025. The Almaden Valley and the East Foothills, the city's wildland-urban interface, both have a history of serious fires, and on those houses we recommend metal mesh over plastic because a guard that melts in the first ember shower protects nothing.

FAQ
Questions we get asked
Commonly twenty years or more with basic cleaning.
On large roofs, tile roofs and wherever a valley dumps into the gutter, usually yes.
We carry a range of baked colors and match as closely as possible.
Under trees and in fire zones, yes. They reduce cleaning but do not eliminate it.
